Benton Park West, Part 3

The heart of South St. Louis is east of Grand, in the dense blocks of houses and four family flats that line the long blocks of state streets. The future of the city, and whether it continues to revive or fall backwards, is contained in these well-preserved but fragile neighborhoods.

It's wonderful to see that as late as the 1950's, new in-fill construction was rising in these neighborhoods.

  1. Completely agreed. Benton Park West, Gravois Park, Marine Villa, Dutchtown, Mount Pleasant, Carondelet--all of these neighborhoods are so important to see preserved and healthy. They are truly St. Louis originals and should be more known as such.
