What They Wanted to Do to Soulard

This was the plan to completely demolish Soulard and turn it into the suburbs.

  1. Wowee. Think of neighborhoods in Brooklyn, NYC. If you took out all the brownstones with their distinctive "stoops" and replaced them with tract housing, then it wouldn't be Brooklyn, now would it? The provincial mindset of St. Louis area denizens has its roots in the earliest decades of the 20th Century, and I think, at least within the City and it's inner ring, a shift is starting to develop. Unfortunately there are thousands of us and a million of them.
