Dillard Mill, Interior
The interior of the Dillard Mill is perfectly preserved, and still runs as it had for over one hundred years.Tours are offered year-round where you can watch the machinery operate.Looking out the window, the water of the river pours over the dam with a roar.

Wow - talk about steam punk (OK - water punk).
ReplyDeleteOld machinery is just fascinating!
And this was still in operation until 1956?

ReplyDeleteWhile OT a tad - my family camoed at Alley Spring back in 1952. While the mill was not operating, the ranger took us kids through as a special treat and Gee! it was neat!
I recall the water from the spring was so pure we were able to drink it - and eat watercress pulled from near the bank
