It never amazes me that a grocery store at the corner of Jefferson and I-44 could not stay in business. Was it because they offered crappy, expired products to the locals? Was it shoplifted blind? Who knows, but I find it bizarre that no one can think of a use for such prime real estate across from the Lafayette Square neighborhood.

Abandoned Grocery Store
It never amazes me that a grocery store at the corner of Jefferson and I-44 could not stay in business. Was it because they offered crappy, expired products to the locals? Was it shoplifted blind? Who knows, but I find it bizarre that no one can think of a use for such prime real estate across from the Lafayette Square neighborhood.

Why should they put it there when Bohemian Hill was there ripe for the picking to be bulldozed for another non-existent supermarket?
ReplyDeleteGrocery stores tend to take on the character of adjacent low income neighborhoods and become 2nd class stores. (dirty, poor selection, and customers that yell at their kids, for example.) Higher income people usually don't like to shop in such conditions and are willing to drive several miles (away from poor neighborhoods) for a 1st class shopping experience.
