LaSalle Street, Chicago

  1. CBOT is the building that first made me *get* the whole art deco setbacks-on-a-skyscraper thing. Viewed from a distance (say, the UIC campus) on a foggy night, when the building's form is all lit up with rays of orangey light, it's exquisite. And it's worth inviting oneself into the lobby to take a look and snap a couple of photos, even though they are pretty swift to expel camera-bearing archi-tourists.
