Very cool map!, but ot appears to be showing the City around the time of the World's Fair in 1904. The fair buildings are the large fan shaped array in the western half of Forest Park. Also, the Parkview subdivision, which is northwest of the park was platted in 1905, and does not yet show up on the map.
Ah, you have a sharp eye; I was wondering why the World' Fair buildings were still being shown. I think I got the 1912 date from the provider of the map.
Chis, I would like to learn more about the history of the area around and in Castlewood State Park. Please tell us more!

ReplyDeleteSuper! I look forward to it. I guess it pays to have a friend that is a history buff.
