A Chopped Off Mansion, Kirksville
It may be hard to believe, but the building shown in these two pictures once was a massive mansion that rose no fewer than four stories tall. Then one day, some genius decided to tear down the top three floors and leave the trunk of the building to become a supermarket. If you look closely, you can still see the remnants of two turrets, one in front and one in back that graced the once stately house on Franklin Street.

Whoever did this must have been one hell of a cynic.
ReplyDeleteAre these older pictures, or did you recently have some business up in the old haunts?
ReplyDeleteI actually was up there for my birthday last weekend.
ReplyDeleteAre there people up there that you still know?
ReplyDeleteHow've things changed? Last I heard, the town was getting less and less fun as the "quality" of the students improved.
I don't know anyone up there anymore, except a couple of professors. It was mainly a weekend getaway trip, so to speak. Most of the cool places are gone; I couldn't even find a place to get a drink. There was a great Mexican restaurant in the old Fazzoli's called La Fuente.
